Victoria Shao

Victoria Shao uses motifs from the plant kingdom in her paintings and is a true poppy expert. When illustrating the poppy motif, she uses both light-abstract and realistic depictions. The composition always consists of the deep red poppy in the foreground against a white background. The colouring is intense and based on expressive-realistic conditions. Supported by the opaque application of paint, the paintings illustrate the extreme emotions that the artist experiences during the creative process.

Victoria Shao: A good picture takes time.

What are you working on?

I just finished a new flower motif. This time it became a realistic representation. It will continue in this direction now.

How do you get inspired?

It's easy to see that I love flowers. Especially poppies. I could paint them endlessly. On the way home I always pass a small flower shop. Then every time I feel the need to take the brush in my hand and start painting again. But since I became the mother of a little daughter last year, I don't have much time for art right now. But when I'm sitting on a new motif again, I'm even more intensively occupied with it.

Which KunstLoft painting is your favourite?

A floral motif, of course: 'Declaration of love in the field of poppies'. Harrison Zhuang made the poppies much lighter and airier than I do. Do you think he has the same weakness for flowers as I do?
