Information pursuant to the ElektroG
Information for private households
The Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) contains a wide range of requirements regarding the handling of electrical and electronic equipment. The most important ones are summarized here.
1. Separate collection of waste equipment
Electrical and electronic equipment that has become waste is referred to as waste equipment. Owners of waste equipment must dispose of it through a collection system that is separate from unsorted municipal waste. In particular, waste equipment does not belong in household waste, but in special collection and return systems.
2. Batteries and rechargeable batteries
As a rule, owners of waste equipment must separate waste batteries and waste rechargeable batteries that are not enclosed within the waste equipment before handing it over to a collection point. This does not apply if the waste equipment is handed over to public waste disposal authorities and is separated there from other waste equipment for the purpose of preparing for reuse.
3. Options for returning waste equipment
Owners of waste equipment from private households can hand it in at the collection points of public waste disposal authorities or at the take-back points set up by manufacturers or distributors within the meaning of ElektroG. An online directory of collection and take-back points can be found here: https://www.ear-system.de/ear-verzeichnis/sammel-und-ruecknahmestellen.jsf
4. Data protection notice
Waste equipment often contains sensitive personal data. This applies in particular to information and telecommunications technology devices such as computers and smartphones. For your own interest, please note that each end user is personally responsible for deleting the data on the waste equipment to be disposed of.
5. Meaning of the symbol "crossed-out wheeled bin"
The symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin, which is regularly shown on electrical and electronic equipment, indicates that the respective device must be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste at the end of its service life.
