Buy artwork by Rick Lim

Rick Lim creates paintings in which abstract compositions and geometric shapes and bold colours shape a modern effect in the room. The works combine motif, colour and composition into a clear visual language and turn art into a deliberate interior accent. Carefully balanced structures and a coherent use of colour give the works expression, depth and a distinctive artistic signature. They invite viewers to discover details up close and to experience the overall composition from a distance. This keeps the work vivid, balanced and pleasant to experience over time.

Rick Lim: I am fascinated by the way motif, colour and composition create their own atmosphere.

How do you find inspiration?

My inspiration grows from observation and mood. In particular, abstract compositions and geometric shapes give me starting points for developing my own visual language. It is important to me that a motif is not merely depicted, but also conveys an atmosphere and leaves room for personal associations.

What matters to you in colour and composition?

Colour and composition should support each other. With bold colours, a work can create calm, tension and depth. I pay attention to how visual guidance, contrasts and open areas work together, so that the artwork remains clear and balanced in the room.

What role does technique play in your work?

Technique gives the artwork character. Visible structures, surfaces and details turn an idea into a finished work. The technique should not dominate the subject, but it shapes how the work is perceived and gives every surface its individual character. It stays vivid over time.

What effect should your works have in a room?

A work of art should create a clear focal point while remaining pleasant to live with over time. The best effect emerges when art and furnishings enter into a dialogue and the work enriches the room without dominating it. This keeps the work vivid, balanced and pleasant to experience over time.

When is a work successful for you?

A work is successful when it reveals details up close and keeps a strong overall effect from a distance. It should not explain everything immediately, but invite the viewer to return, look again and discover new aspects over time.
