Buy artwork by Mara Veldt

Mara Veldt

Mara Veldt works between recognizable moments and abstraction. Figures, landscapes, and symbols appear in fragments, suggested through gestural marks, layered shapes, and rhythmic lines. Transparent veils and opaque passages let a broad palette move from muted tones to saturated highlights, creating motion, depth, and modern narrative. Hand-painted originals that energize contemporary spaces.

Mara Veldt: Between clarity and blur, I let color stitch a story you can feel.

What distinguishes you as an artist?

I build images in layers of suggestion—letting figures, places, and symbols surface briefly, then slip back into abstraction. The tension between what’s readable and what’s unresolved is where the work comes alive.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

From everyday fragments: a gesture in passing, a half-remembered landscape, signage, music, and the rhythm of a city. I collect impressions, then recombine them into a new narrative on canvas.

What makes a painting truly unique?

It holds its own logic—marks, shifts, and hidden decisions that can’t be repeated. Up close you see the route: transparent veils, bold interruptions, and small accidents that become essential.

Which colors do you prefer to work with?

I like contrast: grounded neutrals and smoky midtones pushed against saturated sparks—cobalt, ember orange, magenta, acid yellow. Color is my way of creating movement and emotion without spelling everything out.

Your advice for art collectors or buyers?

Choose what keeps opening up. Live with it in different light, from across the room and close up. If it still feels active—like it’s doing something to the space—you’ve found the right piece.
