Bright colours surround the visitor entering Dean Xiahou's studio. Bright red, bright pink and sunny yellow shine down from the walls and the artist has been working in the centre of this sympathetic chaos for several years. Dean fits well into the industrial metropolis of Shenyang, a cultural centre in northeastern China, where many things are colourful, loud and extravagant. In his sculptures, he doesn't tie himself to a formal style: he skilfully works out soft curves as well as accurate contours. All his sculptures have only one thing in common: they are striking, colorful, and a bow to the joy of life.

How do you get inspired?
„Shenyang has so much to offer. Life is pulsating and I just have to grab it. My inspiration are people, animals, everyday life. I take them and give them a piece of eternity with art.”
