Damon Meng: Life is the greatest work of art and everyone paints their own.

How do you get inspired?

Through the landscape and the seasons. I enjoy hiking and when I see something that I like, I first look at it for a while. There are few things that can rival the beauty of nature. I try to capture that as much as possible and still let my own notes incorporate. Everything one sees is in a certain way connected to emotions and everybody perceives things differently. My paintings should represent my point of view.

If you were not an artist, what would you be?

I have always loved exercising, I used to be a relatively successful runner. However when I began my studies and wanted to simply concentrate on my art, it moved more and more into the background. I still run often and much but only to keep fit. Of course there would have otherwise been many other possibilities except after it worked out so well with the art, I eventually stopped thinking about alternatives.

Which KunstLoft painting is your favourite?

Definitely ‘Morning dew in the birch forest’ by Timothy Fong. I do not know of many paintings that can emit so much calm and relaxation. Birches themselves are already very regal trees when you look at them but the scenery that is offered in this painting almost seems like it is out of a dream. The upwards disappearance of the colours also has very graceful effect. It gives the whole painting an overall feeling of mysticism. It is as if one could assume that the forest extends to infinity.
