Harrison Zhuang

Harrison Zhuang devotes himself in his figurative works of art to both maritime and flowery themes. He is also influenced by eroticism: in his art he is also guided by the beautiful sides of life. With light brush strokes he gives his paintings a soft atmosphere in subtle colours and accentuates them with strong colours. Just as he enjoys creating art, he lets the viewers of his paintings enjoy life.

Harrison Zhuang: Life is beautiful - and that's what I want to show you.

If you weren't an artist, what would you have become?

It should have been some creative job by now. Maybe I would have enjoyed learning to play an instrument. The main thing is to have some form of valve and possibility to express yourself. For an office job I let myself be distracted too easily and am too unfocused. At school I was always told that I was lazy, but it was just that I didn't enjoy the stuff there. In any case, I can spend hours on my art.

How do you get inspired?

Painting is a very good way to channel all the impressions that are pelting down on me. If I don't paint for a long time, then I'm not concentrated, because thousands of things are buzzing around in my head and I have bad dreams. So inspiration can be anything. I'm not fixed about my motives either.

What makes a painting special?

I always keep in mind to capture the core of the motif. Each time it depends on something different. In portraits, for example, you have to capture the personality via the face, while in a landscape the mood is important.
