Frederick Yang

Frederick Yang dedicates his whole life as a lecturer at one of the best art academies in southern China in GuangZhou to oil painting in practice and theory. In his paintings, he processes influences from Arab art, multicolored pastel gradients, and Chinese style elements into his very own interpretation in the contemporary art scene. Born in 1973 in ChangChun in northern China, the artist currently demonstrates his attentive and trained eye for new projects.

Frederick Yang: Painting is more than a mere craft - it is an attitude to life!

What does an artist do?

My task as a painter is to transform the everyday into the art world without making this obvious. In my own paintings, I strive to make different situations, observations and sensory perceptions comprehensible to the observer by means of colours, while also addressing their significance in the history of art. Of course, I also try to make this accessible to my students.

Have you always wanted to be an art lecturer?

Oil painting is my greatest passion and I am honoured to be able to teach it. But if I wouldn't paint paintings myself, I would alternatively like to work in an art museum. Here the most different art styles unite and one can admire their different aspects. Working as a curator would also appeal to me.

What are you working on at the moment?

One experiment that we have recently begun is the interweaving of different traditions within the framework of intercultural art history - exciting what comes out of it.
