Who is Gustav Klimt?
Gustav Klimt was born on July 14, 1862 in Baumgarten near Vienna. He was the second of seven children and grew up in humble circumstances. At the Vienna School of Applied Arts Klimt received formal training in painting and showed early talent for drawing. The classical painting techniques and styles of the old masters had a lasting influence on his first works. Inspired by the avant-garde movements of his time, such as Art Nouveau and Symbolism, he immediately began experimenting with new forms of expression.
In 1918, just a few years before the end of World War I, Klimt’s life was tragically cut short by pneumonia. Nevertheless, his amazing works continue to captivate and inspire art lovers around the world, ensuring that his legacy lives on long after his death.
